It was an exciting day at Tattersalls yesterday for Newsells Park Stud, with the highlight of our mare consignment, Hazariya (Xaar), selling for 2,000,000gns. The dam of Harzand, dual Gr.1 Classic winner of the Epsom Derby and Irish Derby, as well as Group and Stakes winners and performers Harasiya, Hazarafa, Haziyna, was knocked down to MV Magnier of Coolmore, with Sheikh Fahad, Seamus Burns and Grant Pritchard-Gordon as the underbidders.
MV Magnier said: "She's a lovely mare; any mare that breeds a Derby winner is special, and Dermot Weld was also praising her two-year-old Haripour. We'll bring her home and she'll go to Galileo. She's for my parents, Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith and Mayfair Speculators."
Covered by Invincible Spirit, Hazariya was purchased by Newsells Park Stud for €480,000 at Goffs in 2014, and the stud has her yearling filly by Fastnet Rock and a filly foal by Dansili to continue her bloodlines at the stud.
Julian Dollar, Newsells Park Stud general manager, said: "She was good commercial business, but she's been a lovely mare, and a pleasure and privilege to look after. The team at the farm did a great job and she looked magnificent in the ring; and we have two lovely fillies out of her to race.
"Until Harzand won the Derby she was a commercial mare, but then the whole thing changed. She is now 14-years-old and we had to decide whether to keep her for the long term or sell her now; we had to make it work and I'm pleased she's going to a great home."
